Less people, individual attention and a more intimate and luxurious setting are just a few of the reasons a seasoned cruiser may decide to try their sea legs on a smaller cruise ship. And now, travelers can have this distinct and personalized small ship experience at an affordable price.
Cruise Specialists vice president Greg Nacco reports that his luxury cruise agency is currently offering attractive fares on a number of upcoming spring and summer Silversea Mediterranean itineraries. Fares are starting at just $1,999 per person for a popular Athens to Venice Mediterranean cruise itinerary, and include a whopping $500 shipboard credit. Travelers can opt to purchase the cruise only fare or buy a package that includes the cruise fare along with airfare and ship transfers.
In addition to the great cruise fares being offered right now, Nacco notes that a Silversea sailing is virtually all inclusive ? meaning that all beverages including alcohol, gratuities, and all dining options are included in the price of the cruise. Guests don?t have to worry about being charged extra for enjoying a bottle of wine with their dinner, a soft drink on deck, or a formal dinner served course by course in their cabin. Along with the chilled bottle of champagne that welcomes a guest to his or her cabin, Silversea also stocks a beverage cabinet in each person?s room with their preferred assortment of complimentary beverages.
Silver Spirit
The Silversea Cruises fleet of six ultra-luxury ships accommodates a range of passengers varying from 132 people on the Silver Explorer to 540 guests on the newer Silver Spirit, compared to the 2,000 passengers typically found on a traditional cruise ship.
The Silver Spirit debuted in December 2009 and introduced some features that are new to the cruise line. The suites feature a separate sitting area, walk-in closet, marble bathroom, full-size bathtub, flat-screen televisions, and most have private teak verandas offering expansive ocean views. There are two new dining spots onboard the Silver Spirit: Stars, which features live music and dancing with a modern supper club menu and stylish Seishin Restaurant, which offers delicious Kobe beef, sushi and Asian seafood specialties.
?A benefit to sailing on a smaller ship is that you will most likely encounter fewer passengers at the restaurants, spa, or pool deck making you feel as if you have the place to yourselves to enjoy,? said Nacco. ?However, there is nearly one crew member to every person onboard ensuring that every guest will receive VIP treatment during their cruise.?
Another upside of small ships is that travelers sometimes get access to smaller and often more enticing ports that the larger mega-ships aren?t able to reach. ?One of the most unique experiences I have had sailing on a smaller cruise ship was being able to sail right down the Thames River under the Tower Bridge in London on the Silver Cloud,? said Bonnie Childs, a luxury cruise consultant at Cruise Specialists. ?Sailing right through the heart of London was an unforgettable experience and one I would not have been able to replicate on a larger cruise ship.?
