This is a weekly column written by The PawPrint?s own Nathan Gonzales. He hopes to humor you with a message.
What the heck, Bonita? I?ve got a bone to pick with you. Where do you get off doing such a terrible thing? This is just horrible? just horrible. You people really bother me. Of all the things? why? That?s all I want to know. Why? Why on earth would you ever, I mean ever, be so irresponsible?
Oh, you don?t know what I?m talking about? Of course you don?t. I?m not surprised. You kids are so busy texting that you have no idea what?s going on beyond your two thumbs.
And that?s what I?m talking about: Texting.
It?s out of hand now, really. Take the experience I had the other day for example. I was almost late for class (I?ve never been late for a class in my entire high school life) because I was stuck walking behind a girl texting and walking.
This is just plain dangerous. Not only are you causing your fellow classroom commuters precious time by being stuck behind your slowly maneuvering body, but you?re ultimately putting yourself in danger.
Imagine one day; you feel the dire need to answer a text message. You answer it. You begin typing your response with those expert texting thumbs of yours, but next thing you know, you?re careening off the quad and into a bush, a bench, or worst of all, another person.
Could you handle that kind of disaster? I thought not.
This is a serious matter, people. Lives are at stake. Perfect on-time attendances are stake.
This is why I want everyone to take a pledge to not walk and text. Please come and see me if you wish to take this pledge. ?If you don?t, I?ll find you. I know who you are.
For those who have lost someone to texting while walking, I offer my sincerest condolences. I myself haven?t experienced hardships brought on by TWW, and I can?t begin to imagine the pain?
But what I can imagine is a world without walking texters. I can picture a world where Bonita?s hallways are a safe place for all to traverse. I can imagine, because I?m not brain-dead from a severe TWW accident.
The next time you text, make sure you?re sitting down, and especially make sure that you?re not moving.
Be responsible, save lives. Walk safe, Bearcats.
